In this world, there is a unique city. City of Sarajevo, European Jerusalem, as they call it. The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. One, the only and the most beautiful.
While waiting for the tram at Baščaršija, a man from Sarajevo stared at the scene ahead. Sebilj, the minarets of the mosque, old kebab shops, cafes and pastry shops, people drinking water from the fountain near Sebilj and children feeding the pigeons. When you take a closer look at just that sight of the city, you realize that being born here and having the opportunity to be in this city is truly a gift from a higher power. Sarajevo is a city with a soul. You feel a special warmth when you walk through the streets of Sarajevo. No city has such warmth. This city is really special. Noon. Call to prayer. And besides the call to prayer, the sounds of church bells were also heard. Only in this city can you hear such sounds. Only here you can go from the Ottoman Empire to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in one step. There is nothing like it in the world. Take a walk along Ferhadija and Titova Street. Watch residents. Then stand in front of the Eternal Fire and look at it, you feel the pain and suffering of those people. Then look at the people again. What do you notice? Cheerfulness, a smile. Everyone has a smile on their face. Everyone would love to talk to you, help you, direct you. Well, welcome to Sarajevo!
And in Sarajevo, the one and only “High School of Economics Sarajevo.” The street address Zmaja od Bosna number 39 means a fortune to me. It is not an ordinary building with a beautifully landscaped yard and artwork on the wall – it is my second home and the place that is responsible for my knowledge that I gather day by day. My school is also a second home for our wonderful teachers, who selflessly pass on their knowledge to us and raise us as their own children. You can’t feel uncomfortable and insecure in our school. There will always be someone who will lend you a hand and help you, even when you think that everything is sinking into the depths of the deepest lakes. I can say that compared to other schools, the High School of Economics is like Sarajevo compared to other cities. No school will welcome you like the High School of Economics. I am grateful that I had the honor of walking the corridors of a school like this. You know you had a good time in High School when you remember with a smile on your face big breaks on the bench in the yard, walks around the Wilsons, school trips, field trips, visits to various museums and institutions, and so on, and so on… and the list can go on and on. And most of all, you remember the people with whom you went through all that and went around. And then you are sure that you really had a good time and that you want it all over again. If I were to enroll again, without a second thought, I would choose High School of Economics. If the only thing I ever did in my life was enroll in this school, I wouldn’t know what regret is. A man from Sarajevo from the beginning of this story admired my words about the school I attended. When we finished the conversation, the man thanked me from the bottom of his heart. He got up from the bench. I handed him the newspaper and thanked him for the nice conversation. That’s when the tram came. “Are you coming in?” he asked. “No, I’ll stay a little longer,” I told him. She remained on the bench, looking at the scene in front of her and remembering High School. I think that now I love Sarajevo even more – my city. And I hope you too…
